Winifred G Detra

Winifred Gwendolyn “Winnie” Detra, 91, of Longswamp Township, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she resided for nine years. Winnie was the widow of Irvin G. Detra, who died in August 1984.

Born in Erhard, Minnesota, as the second child to Hilbert Alexis and Nona Ethel (Reynolds) Landeen, she attended Grinnell College in Iowa and was employed at the family creamery business in Clarksville, Iowa, when she met and married Irvin Detra in 1939. She moved to Longswamp Township in 1968, when Irvin was transferred to Allentown as an engineer with Mack Trucks. She was a housewife noted for her stained glass, painting, puppetry and other forms of craft work as well as an active member of local women’s clubs and volunteer work. She was a longtime member and supporter of Longswamp United Church of Christ up to the time of her stroke in January 1999.

She is survived by Daughter, Camilla D. Mallonee and her husband, William J. Hennessy, of Longswamp Township; Sons, Earl H. Detra of Westminster, Colorado, and Randall L. Detra of Chadds Ford, Delaware County. Also surviving are 3 Grandchildren, Leigh D. Mallonee, Eugene, Oregon, Kelsey I. Detra, Westminster, Colorado and Eric L. Detra Chadds Ford. She was preceded in death by a Brother, Vernon Landeen of Maywood, Illinois.

Memorial Services are Friday, January 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM from Longswamp UCC Church, 200 Clay Road, Mertztown. Inurnment is private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 East Weis Street, Topton.
