William O. “Doc” Muehlhauser, M.D., 95, of Topton, died on Tuesday evening, April 4, 2017 in his residence.

Born in Quakertown, he was a son of the late William W. and Eva B. (Rahn) Muehlhauser. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton. Dr. Muehlhauser was a United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He was a 1939 graduate of Quakertown High School, 1943 graduate of Muhlenberg College, Allentown, and a 1946 graduate of Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia.  He worked as a Medical Doctor in Topton, PA, operating his own family practice from 1949 until his retirement in 1989. Dr. Muehlhauser was the Medical Director of The Lutheran Home at Topton for 22 years. He also served on the Medical Staff at several of the Lehigh Valley Hospital locations until 1989. He served on the Board of Trustees at Muhlenberg College for approximately 11 years. Doc was the first President and organizer of the former Topton Rotary Club in the 1960’s. He was the director of the Salvation Army of the Eastern Region of Berks County in the 1950’s and 1960’s; a member of the Lehigh County Medical Society; Pennsylvania Medical Society; and the American Medical Association from 1946 until the 1980’s. Dr. Muehlhauser was a member of Barger Lodge #333, F. & A.M., Allentown, and a member of Moselem Springs Golf Club, Fleetwood.

He is survived by his Children, Dr. Linda A. (Muehlhauser), wife of Dr. Louis Emerson Ward, Rochester, MN, Gayle E. (Muehlhauser), wife of John French, Bloomfield Hills, MI, Jane C. (Muehlhauser), wife of Kenneth Morrell, Annapolis, MD, and William L., husband of Paula K. (Croll) Muehlhauser, Key West, Fla.; Other survivors include 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

Services for Dr. Muehlhauser will be held privately by his family at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
