William D Hertzog

September 13, 1918 — January 21, 2004

William D. Hertzog, 85, of 72 Hidden Valley Road, Mertztown, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, in Phoebe Home, Allentown. He was married to Ruth E. (Ziegler) Hertzog for 59 years last March.

Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Harvey J. and Sallie S. (Fritch) Hertzog. He worked for Metropolitan Edison Co., Topton, from 1951 until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Longswamp United Church of Christ, Mertztown; served on its consistory for 20 years, and was an elder for more than 50 years and a Sunday school treasurer for 15 years. He was a former volunteer with the Boy Scouts in Longswamp Township. He was a member of the Old Time Minstrels and served on the board of Longswamp Union Cemetery for 30 years.

He is survived by Wife; Sons, Joseph L. Hertzog of Wyomissing, Berks County, William D. II. of Brownville Junction, Maine; Daughter, Sandra A. Miller of Alburtis; 3 Grandchildren, a Great Granddaughter.

Funeral services are Monday, January 26, 2004, at 10:30 AM from the Longswamp UCC Church, 200 Clay Road, Mertztown, 19539. Interment in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Friends may call Monday from 9:30 AM until time of services.

Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Longswamp United Church of Christ, Mertztown. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
