William A Yurvati

William A. Yurvati, 50, of Kutztown, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in the in-patient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Bonnie L. (Bailey) Yurvati. They celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in October.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of Ivelise A. (Olivencia) Yurvati, Allentown, and the late Albert S. Yurvati. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown. He was an Army veteran, serving three years active duty and seven years in the reserves. He was a signals intelligence analyst and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was awarded the Army Commendation, Army Achievement, and Good Conduct medals. He was a life member and the Americanism/Service Officer of AMVETS Post #288, Allentown.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Kutztown University in 1982, a Master of Science degree in clinical psychology from Millersville University in 1984. He also earned a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003.He was a librarian for East Stroudsburg University from 2003 to present. Prior to that, he was employed at Kutztown University as a Library Technician from 1988 to 2003.

He was a school board member for the Kutztown Area School District for eight years. He was a trustee and corresponding secretary for the Louisa Gonser Community library. He was active in his community as a member of the Kutztown Lions Club and the Kutztown Area Historical Society. He researched and wrote many articles on local history. He was a member of the American Library Association and the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries. He possessed a passion for railroads and was a certified Operation Lifesaver Presenter. He was a member of the Hawk Mountain Chapter of the National Railway and Historical Society.

He is survived by Wife, Mother, Daughter, Erica S., at home; Brothers, Jorge, husband of Elba (Aleman) Gonzalez, Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Albert H., husband of Sharon L. (Curry) Yurvati, Southlake, Texas, Robert S. Yurvati and, Matthew W., husband of Kendra L. (Grube) Yurvati, Allentown, PA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 17 th , 2008 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown. Interment with Military Honors provided by Ray A. Master Post, #217 American Legion, Topton, in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Sunday evening at Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and Monday 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the church.

The family requests contributions be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, 2 International Plaza, Suite 245, Philadelphia, PA 19113. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
