Warren L. Greiss, 93, of Alburtis, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2016 in his residence. He was the widower of Jean L. (DeLong) Greiss, who died on September 25, 2009.
Born in Longswamp Township, he was a son of the late William E. and Annie V. (Guinther) Greiss. He was a member of Longswamp United Church of Christ, Mertztown. Warren honorably and faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps. in World War II, where he was proud to be present for the raising of the U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi, during the Battle of Iwo Jima. He served as the Commander of the former Mertztown VFW Post 7071 during the 1950’s, and was a lifetime member of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton. Warren was a self-employed electrician from 1972, retiring in 2005. Prior to that, he was employed as an electrician by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Trexlertown, from 1956 to 1972, and also worked in the same capacity at the former Caloric Corporation, Topton, from 1947 until 1956. Warren was a 50-year member of Huguenot Lodge No. 337, F. & A.M., Kutztown, where he helped with their annual candy making. He enjoyed tinkering with everything he had around his home and property.
Warren is survived by a Daughter, Lori S. (Greiss), wife of Gregory Souders, Alburtis; Son, Daniel J., husband of Kathy (Henry) Greiss, Oley; Daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Beth” D. (DuBois) Greiss, Kutztown, widow of predeceased Son, Thomas W. Greiss; 6 Grandchildren, 2 Step-grandchildren, and 7 Great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his Wife; Parents; and two Brothers, John and David Greiss.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 3:15 PM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call on Monday afternoon from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the funeral home. A Masonic service will begin at 3:00 PM Military honors will be rendered following the memorial service by the U.S. Marine Corps. Interment will be private.
