Walter W. Eck, 92, formerly of Kutztown, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015, in Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown, where he was a resident for over two years. He was the widower of Doris E. (Oswald) Eck who died January 23, 2010.

Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Morris and Stella I. (Knittle) Eck. Mr. Eck was a 1940 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. He was a Red Cross First Aid instructor from 1950 to 1960. He was also a provisional First Aid instructor for the Bureau of Mines. Mr. Eck was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown where he was a member of the senior choir for many years. He was also a former member of church council. He honorably and faithfully served our country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was recalled during the Korean War, where he served as First Sergeant of a weapons company with the Second Marine Division. Mr. Eck retired from Allentown Portland Cement Company in 1985. After retirement, Walter was a morning host at the Airport Diner in Kutztown for several years. He was an active Scouter for many years who helped organize Kutztown Troop #204, now Troop #101 where he served as a Scout Master. He also was a Commissioner on the District and Council levels. He attended several Boy Scout National Jamborees and was a contingent leader to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 1962 and 1967. He was the Food Service Director at Hawk Mountain Scout Camp for five years. Walter was a member and past Fire Chief of the Kutztown Fire Company, Hoch-Balthaser Post 480, American Legion, Kutztown, a life member Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 839, Kutztown, Huguenot Lodge No. 377 F. & A.M., Kutztown and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Rajah Shrine. Walter enjoyed cooking, singing, wood carving and spending time at Renninger's Farmers Market with his buddies on Friday and Saturday mornings.

He is survived by his Daughter, Christine R. (Eck), wife of Michael S. Nichols, Monroe, NC; Son, David B. Eck, Hellertown; 3 Grandchildren, Terry Lovell, Victoria Haney and Joanna Burroughs; 9 Great Grandchildren, Dana, Dustin, Jaira, Kelsey, Kipley, Kaleigh, Jessica, Blake and Victoria; 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, Hailee, Ella and Noah. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris and Sister, Miriam P. (Eck) Yoder on April 16, 2006.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 12:00 noon in Saint John's Lutheran Church, 201 East Main Street, Kutztown, with Reverend MaryAnn Hamm officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon in the church.

The family requests contributions be made in Walter's memory to either St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or The Walter W. Eck Scout Spirit Scholarship Fund (Please make checks payable to Boy Scout Troop #101). Both contributions can be sent to 201 East Main Street, Kutztown, PA  19530. Walter's family would also like to thank the nursing staff and caregivers at Saucon Valley Manor for their wonderful care they gave to Walter. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
