Vernon L Kercher

September 27, 1921 — January 29, 2004

Vernon L. Kercher, 82, of 1821 State St., Alburtis, died Thursday, January 29, 2004 in his home. He was the husband of the late Betty F. (Steffey) Kercher.

Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Percival and Maude (Schaeffer) Kercher. He was a machinist for Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown, for 41 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mertztown. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a direct descendent of Martin Kaercher, founder of Hamburg in 1720, and was a former president of the Kercher Reunion Committee.

He is survived by Wife; Daughters, Carol S. Frantz of Allentown, Cindy A. Chernay of Coopersburg; Sons, Terry A. of Alburtis, Chris C. of Reading; Sisters, Marion Rabenold of Alburtis, Betty Hoffman of Macungie; Brother, Karl of Macungie; 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services are Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at 10:30 AM from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown. Interment with Military Honors in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Friends may call 9:30 AM until time of services in the church.

The family requests contributions be made to the Pottstown Visiting Nurses Association, 1963 East High Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
