Verdia V Kunkel

Verdia V. Kunkel, 94, formerly of Maxatawny and Bethlehem, died, Tuesday, December 30, 2003, in ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Herman E. Kunkel.

Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late James Kern and Katie (Rohrbach) Kern Miller. She was a weaver for the former Mertztown Rug Mill before retiring in the early 1960’s. Previously, she was a silk weaver for the former Topton Silk Mill for 23 years and a cutter for the former Continental Wallet Factory, Kutztown, for four years. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Zion's Union Church, Maxatawny.

She is survived by Daughter, Loretta M. Steirer of Bethlehem; Brother, Ernest Kern of Kutztown; Sisters, Mamie C. (Kern) Haas of Maxatawny, Lillian (Kern) Bauer of Alburtis, Sadie (Kern) Heffner of Mertztown; a Grandson, a Great Granddaughter.

Funeral Services are Saturday, 10:00 AM from Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 East Weis Street, Totpon. Interment in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Topton. Friends may call Saturday, 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
