Velus G Benson

Velus G. Benson, 80, of formerly of Topton, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in Cedarbrook Nursing Home, South Whitehall Twp., Lehigh County. He was married to the late Mae R. (Shoemaker) Benson who died November 24, 1994.

Born in Boydsville, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Loyd and the late Opal (Irby) Benson. He was employed by various companies in the Lehigh Valley in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Industry, including Brookside County Club, Allentown, where he served as manager during the 1960’s. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Michigan State University in 1950. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and a member of the China-Burma-India Association. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton.

He is survived by Son, Keith Benson, Winter Park, Florida; Daughters, Kathy (Benson) Evans, West Pittston, PA, Dana (Benson) Grey, Macungie, Lehigh County, PA, Diane (Benson) O’Shea, Fogelsville, Lehigh County, PA, Lane Benson, Allentown, Laurie Benson, Walnut Creek, Calif., Karol (Benson) Thomas, New Tripoli, Lehigh County, PA; Brother, Loyd Benson, Piggott, Arkansas; 10 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren.

Services and interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
