Thomas L. Johnson, age 77, of 232 Grimley Street, Kutztown PA, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 in the Manor Care Health Services, Muhlenburg Township PA. He was the Husband of Jean L. (Awkerman) Johnson. The couple celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary last September.

Born in Kresgeville PA, he was the Son of the late Amos and Susan (Wuest) Johnson. He was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Wayne PA from 1949 until his retiring in 1984. He was a Member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Kutztown.

He was a 1942 Graduate of Kresgeville High School, Kresgeville. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II from 19432 to 1946. He was Past President of Local #899 of the National Letter Carriers Union in Wayne PA from 1967 to 1968. He was a Member of the George Bertram-Paul Sand Lodge #298 in Media PA, a Founding Member of the Newtown Square Ambulance Corp in 1962, and received recognition from the US Postal Service in the 1950's for saving a child's life while on his route.

He is survived by his Wife; Daughter, Louise M. (Johnson) Hutchings of Kutztown PA; Son, Donald T. Johnson of Wernersville PA; Sisters, Lorraine S. (Johnson) Abel of Wind Gap PA, Ruth A. (Johnson) Custer of Wind Gap PA and Helen M. (Johnson) Schaffer of Ocala FL; Brothers, Albert Johnson of Schnecksville PA and A. David Johnson of Palmerton PA; 4 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 Noon Saturday, July 28, 2001 in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. There will be no calling hours.
