Thomas J Birnie

Thomas J. Birnie, 75, of Greenwich Township, formerly of New York, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in his residence. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Totten) Birnie. They were married June 21, 1969.

Born in Bronx, New York, he was a son of the late Samuel A. and Edith (McGuire) Birnie. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea. He was also a member of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force reserves. Thomas was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Kutztown. He was employed as an airline mechanic for the former Pan American Airlines at JFK Airport, NY for 28 years, retiring in 1991.

He is survived by Wife, Daughter, Christa L. (Birnie) wife of Mark Pettit, Kutztown; Son, Keith M., husband of Lisa (Beck) Birnie, Hawthorn Woods, IL; and a Brother, Samuel husband of Carleen M. (Ordway) Birnie, Saddlebrook, NJ. There are also 3 Grandchildren, Andrew D., Thomas D., and Taylor R. Pettit.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church.

The family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
