Thomas A Sanelli

Thomas A. Sanelli, 73, of Highland Avenue, Kutztown, died Monday, September 19, 2005, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading. He was the husband of Grace E. (Taylor) Sanelli who resides at Eastwick at Exeter, Reading.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Daniel and the late Sally A. (Sciarra) Sanelli. He was professor at Kutztown University, Kutztown from 1966 to 1997 retiring as head of the History Department. He taught history at Marple-Newtown High School, Broomall, from 1960 to 1666; and at Gloucester Senior High School, Glouchester, NJ. from 1958 to 1960. He was a 1956 graduate of West Chester University, West Chester, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History; a graduate of Temple University, Philadelphia, in 1958 with a Masters Degree in History; and he received his PhD. in History from Temple University in 1968. At Kutztown University he was an advisor and member of Phi Alpha Theta and an advisor for the Black Student Union. He served as President of APCURF and Vice President of APCUF. He was a founding member of the Kutztown Historical Society (1976) and instrumental in starting the Pennsylvania German Heritage Collection at Kutztown University. He played the string bass for the Reading Pops, Kutztown University Orchestra, and in the bands Mood Swing and Swing Fever. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown.

He is survived by Wife, Daughters, Regina C. (Sanelli) Rader, Stevensville, MD, Maria F. Sanelli, Kutztown, Lisa A. Sanelli, Exeter Twp., Terri L. Sanelli, West Lawn; 7 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, September 23, 2005 at 10:00 AM from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the church.
