Steve John O'Neil

February 5, 1959 — June 19, 2022

Steve John O'Neil, 63, of Kutztown, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 19, 2022, in his home.  He was the husband of Cindy A. (Peters) O'Neil, whom he married September 15, 1984.  Born in West Reading, Steve was a son of the late John S. and Fern M. (Zimmerman) O'Neil.  Steve was a member of Zion's Union Church, Maxatawny, where he was a past Church Board President; served on several committees within the church, and was a dedicated and active member.

Steve was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Class of 1977.  Steve was president of his class, and a three varsity sport athlete, playing soccer, basketball and baseball.  Steve went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, State College, in 1981.

Steve was employed by The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Wastewater Management, over 35 years.

Steve was a passionate coach for Kutztown Girls Soccer Club; Kutztown High School Girls Soccer; and Hamburg High School Girls Soccer.  He was also an active member of Kutztown Optimist Club.  Steve also enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, Cindy, Steve is survived by his children, a daughter, Casey L. O'Neil Haas, wife of Nathaniel K. Haas, Kutztown; a son, Madison A. O'Neil, husband of Megan E. Blair, Vejle, Denmark.  Other survivors include siblings:  Andy S., husband of Cindy J. (Parks) O'Neil, Kutztown; Michael P. "Mick," husband of Jenn (Swenson) O'Neil, Kutztown. In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by three sisters: Christine P. "Peggy" (O'Neil) Miller, Suzanne M. O'Neil, and Kathy J. (O'Neil) Helbert.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Steve's life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, in Zion's Union Church, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, with The Reverend Jeffrey J. Butz, officiating.  Interment in Zion Maxatawny Union Cemetery.  Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church.
