Stanley J. Nawoczenski-Nolan, age 87, of 218 E. Keller Street, Topton PA, died Thursday, June 14, 2001 in his home. He was the Husband of Margaret E. (Piper) Nawoczenski-Nolan.

Born in Reading PA, he was the Son of the late John and Victoria (Sobczak)Nawoczenski. He, along with his Wife, Owned and Operated the Nolan's Department Store, Topton from 1949 to the present. During the same time, he Owned and Operated the former Family Style Center Clothing Store, Macungie PA from 1960 to 1973. Prior to that, he Owned and Operated the former Stanley Hosiery Mill, Reading PA from 1946-1949. He was the Co-Founder and Vice President of the former TOP Loan Savings and Loan Company, Topton from 1960 to 1973. He was a Member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown, where he also served as President of the Building Committee from 1965 to 1970 and was the Eucharistic Minister from 1970 to 1980.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having attained the rank of Captain and serving from 1941 to 1946 during World War II. He was a Member of the Founders/Delegate Polish American Board of Education, Reading from 1947 to 1950. He served as President of the Topton Lions Club from 1959-1960, 1978-1979 and 1985-1986. He served as president of the Topton Little League from 1968 to 1975 and the former Topton/Longswamp Chamber of Commerce from 1958 to 1960. He was a member of the Brandywine Heights Area School District School Board from 1969 to 1981 and during that time he held the office of Treasurer and Vice President. He was Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Berks County Intermediate Unit from 1973 to 1984. From 1960 to 2000 he provided the Stanley J. Nolan Academic Scholarship Award in Science for Academic Excellence to a graduating senior at Brandwine Heights Area High School, Topton. He received the Topton Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1976. He was a Graduate of Reading High School and Penn State University, with a degree in Textile Engineering. He also did graduate work at the University of Baltimore; University of Pennsylvania; Wharton School of Business, Philadelphia and Tulane University, New Orleans LA.

He is survived by his Wife; Daughters, Julianne Nawoczenski-Nolan and Christy M. Nawoczenski-Nolan, at home; Sons, Mark S. Nolan of Berwyn PA, Gregory T. Nawoczenski-Nolan of Allentown PA and Daniel J. Nawoczenski-Nolan of King of Prussia PA; Sisters, Helen Nawoczenski of Reading PA and Florence Nawoczenski of Reading PA; Brother, Walter Nawoczenski of Reading PA; and 5 Grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, June 18, 2001 from the Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown. Family and Friends may call Sunday, June 17, 2001 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Homes, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale PA.
