Mrs. Shirley M. Youse

Shirley M. (Manmiller) Youse, 86, of Kutztown, died peacefully Sunday, March 20, 2022, in ProMedica Laureldale, Muhlenberg Township, where she was a guest one month. She was the wife of Larry C. Youse, they were married February 25, 1955.  Born in Leesport, Shirley was a daughter of the late John P. and Erma M. (Grim) Manmiller.

Shirley was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School, Class of 1953.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a minor in foreign language from Kutztown University, graduating in the Class of 1957.  She first taught in the Muhlenberg School District; then the Albuquerque (NM) School District, while her husband, Larry was stationed in the service at near-by Sandia Army base; then returned to Muhlenberg for several years. She also worked as a substitute teacher in the Brandywine Heights School District for many years.  Shirley obtained her Real Estate Associate Broker's License and worked with John W. Monaghan Realtors, Kutztown, for over 15 years.  She had the honor of being named Agent of the Year in 1992.  She was a graduate of the Berks County Real Estate Institute. She was a member of the National Association of Realtors and the Berks County Association of Realtors.

Shirley enjoyed baking, traveling and was a voracious reader.  She enjoyed completing the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, Larry, Shirley is survived by a son, Deron K. Youse, Kutztown.  Other survivors include a sister, Sara J. (Manmiller), wife of Russell Fetter, Temple.  In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by two brothers, Larry J. Manmiller and Samuel M. Manmiller.

A funeral service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Arthur L. Hahn, officiating. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown.  Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
