Shirley M Smith

Shirley M. Smith, 80, of Kutztown, died Friday, February 25, 2011 in Kutztown Manor. She was the wife of Earl L. Smith, whom she married September 18, 1954.

Born in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late Harvey E. and Stella (Fritz) Bortz. She was a member of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, Kutztown. Shirley was the secretary/treasurer of Earl L. Smith Roofing, Kutztown for 30 years, retiring in 1984. She was a charter member of the Kutztown Lioness Club, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Kutztown Fire Company. Shirley loved to go to the local races and also loved to crochet blankets. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by Husband, Son, Kenneth E., husband of Ruth E. (Crone) Smith, Bellefonte, PA; Brothers, Arthur Bortz, Hamburg, and Paul H. Bortz, Kutztown. There are also 4 Granddaughters, Laura, Angela, Kendra and Kyra Smith. She was pre-deceased by a Grandson, Nathan Smith and a Sister and 2 Brothers.

Funeral Services are Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM from St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 47 South Whiteoak Street, Kutztown. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Tuesday, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the church.
