Shirley L. McGinley, 80, of Franklin Street, Alburtis, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 in the Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township. She was the wife of the late Richard M. McGinley who died on August 21, 1994.
Born in Emmaus, PA she was a daughter of the late Warren L. and Mabel M. (Schmoyer) Mauer. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Alburtis, where she was a Sunday School Teacher; and, served in the same capacity at the former Lockridge Presbyterian Church, Alburtis. She was a leader of the Alburtis Camp Fire Girls for 15 years; a volunteer at Phoebe Home, Allentown; and, a volunteer for VIA Corporation, Bethlehem. In 1992 she received “The Community Spirit Award” from the Morning Call for her volunteer efforts in Human Services and for demonstrating a strong commitment to the Lehigh Valley area by sharing the desire and determination for the community to preserve a high quality of life. She was the owner and operator of the former Alburtis Cut Rate Store for 41 years retiring in 1994.
She is survived by Brother, Marlyn L. Maurer, Emmaus. She was predeceased by Sisters, Helen L. Mauer, Dorothy E. Danenhower and Brothers, Billy Maurer and Forrest L. Maurer.
Funeral Services are Friday September 5, 2008 at 10:30 AM in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 125 Quarry Road, Alburtis. Interment in Northwood Cemetery, Emmaus. Friends may call Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the church.
The family requests contributions to the VIA of the Lehigh Valley, Inc., 336 West Spruce Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018 or the Church of the Good Shepherd, 125 Quarry Road, Alburtis, PA 18011. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
