Shirley J. Ream

January 22, 1936 — September 11, 2022

Shirley J. (Hilbert) Ream, 86, of Kutztown, formerly of Topton, died Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.  Shirley was the widow of George Ream, Jr., who died February 9, 2013.  Born in Topton, she was a daughter of the late Lester G. and Alice M. (Hertzog) Hilbert.  Shirley was a member of the former New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Rockland Township.

Shirley was a homemaker and an active member of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, Ladies Auxiliary, serving at its Chaplain for eight years.

Shirley is survived by five sons:  Michael A., widow of Christiana L. (Walters) Ream, Fleetwood, Terry L. Ream, Mertztown, Scott K., husband of Pamela J. (Benjamin) Ream, Fleetwood, Barry L., husband of Rosalyn A. (Chryst) Ream, Bethlehem, and Timothy N. Ream, Kutztown.  Other survivors include, sisters:  Patricia Roth, Fleetwood;  Fern Readinger, Oley; Marlene Diachynski, Barto, and Florabelle Christman, Tuckerton; brother: Melvin Hilbert, Lancaster County.  There are six grandchildren, five step grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, George, and parents, Shirley was predeceased by sisters: Carrie Rohrbach; Edna Rohrbach; Gladys Grim; Joyce Eisenhard; Betty Matthew; Helen Kunkleman; and  brothers Lester C. Hilbert, Harold Hilbert, and Clarence L. Hilbert.

A private graveside service will be held in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood, at the convenience of the family.  There is no public viewing or calling hours.
