Mrs. Shirley E. Phillips

Shirley E. (Trexler) Phillips, 88, of Rockland Township, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024 in Penn State Health - St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township. She was the loving wife of Donald E. Phillips, whom she married on July 6, 1957.

Born at home in Breinigsville, PA, Shirley was a daughter of the late Howard J. and Marie A. (Behringer) Trexler and was a member of Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, Dryville. Throughout her career, Shirley was employed by the former General Seating and Sash in Topton as a sprayer, the former Boyertown Casket Company as a sprayer in the metal division and later as an inspector of the wood division, and lastly, The Lutheran Home at Topton in the housekeeping department.

Shirley took great pride in raising her five children. She had the utmost patience with them and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored her. Her family was her entire life and she loved spending quality time with all of them. She also had a way with babies and was fondly known as "The Baby Whisperer". Shirley also enjoyed coloring, crocheting, camping, canning and preserving food, gardening and cultivating her pristine flower beds. She had a love for all genres of music and her favorite song to sing was "You Are My Sunshine." Shirley will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her and will always have a special place in their hearts.

Along with her husband of nearly 67 years, Donald, Shirley is survived by her five children, Tina M. (Phillips), widow of Thomas R. Levan, Fleetwood, Donna I. (Phillips), wife of Russ L. Bower, Macungie, Debbie L. (Phillips), wife of Blake J. Steffy, Fleetwood, Dave E., husband of Lynn L. (Kern) Phillips, Fleetwood, and Peggy L. (Phillips), wife of David G. Moyer, Jr., Fleetwood.

10 grandchildren, Amy B. (Levan), wife of Rich Pinsk, Joel D., husband of Jen (Chwaszczewski) Levan, Elliot B., husband of Courtney (Freese) Steffy, Logan J., husband of Bridgette (Colon) Steffy, Ian C. Steffy, Amanda L. (Phillips), wife of Jim Renninger, Tiffany A. (Phillips), wife of Steven Ziegler, Angela E. (Phillips), wife of Cory Ferreri, Malorie E. (Moyer), wife of James Hinrichs, and Wyatt D. Moyer.

11 great-grandchildren, Samuel L. Pinsk, Willa M. Pinsk, Julianna R. Levan, Lydia E. Levan, Waylon B. Steffy, Nora A. Steffy, Louisa J. Steffy, Colten J. Renninger, Brody J. Renninger, Riley E. Ferreri, and Brinley G. Ferreri.

She is also survived by her two sisters, Anna (Trexler) Kocher, Fleetwood and Rosie (Trexler) Kocher, Hamburg. Along with her parents, Shirley was predeceased by a grandson, and siblings, Mary (Trexler) Smith, Betty (Trexler) Hoffmaster, Edna "Tootie" (Trexler) Stump and Joel Trexler.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor Shirley's life will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, PA with The Reverend Martin A. Milne officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery (Dryville), Fleetwood, PA.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
