Mrs. Shirley Ann Arnold

October 27, 1957 — March 7, 2022

Shirley A. (Potzman) Arnold, 64, of Mohrsville, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, March 7, 2022 in Penn State Health - St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township. She was the loving wife of Newell A. "Bud" Arnold, Jr., whom she married on December 11, 1976.

Born in Allentown, Shirley was a daughter of the late Robert A. Potzman, Sr., who died on October 6, 1995, and the late Doris P. (Faust) Potzman, who died on January 9, 2021. She was raised in Kutztown and was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School, class of 1975. While attending high school, Shirley was an accomplished athlete who played field hockey, basketball and softball, lettering in all three. After her graduation from Kutztown, Shirley enlisted in The United States Army, where she trained as a nurse at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, and served at the immunization clinic at West Point, NY.

After her honorable discharge from the military, Shirley pursued her secondary education at Florida State University in Education. For 30 years, and hired while she was still in college, Shirley was employed by Margaret K. Lewis School in Panama City, FL, working as a Teacher with students with profound physical and mental challenges. She was adored by her students and well respected by her colleagues.

After her retirement, Shirley and her husband Bud moved back to her home, Berks County, PA. Shirley enjoyed going fishing with her husband, gardening and planting flowers, boating as well as all outdoor activities. She attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Trexlertown, and was a proud Kutztown Cougar.

Along with her husband of 45 years, Bud, Shirley is survived by her three children, Christopher D. Arnold, Grand Bay, AL, Stacy L. (Arnold), wife of Chris Watson, Panama City, FL and David L., husband of Angel (Ivey) Arnold, Fountain, FL; five grandchildren, Kearstin, Kaydance, Summer, Autumn and Hailey; two sisters, Marilyn L. (Potzman), wife of Frank Egner, Emmaus, and Judy E. (Potzman), wife of Michael A. Weaver, Laureldale; several nieces and nephews; and her four-legged companion, Rascal.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by a sister, Sandra J. (Potzman) Acker on December 27, 2021; brother, Robert A. Potzman, Jr. on February 23, 1995; and a nephew, Gary G. Brobst, Jr., who died on March 20, 1995.

A service to celebrate and honor Shirley's life will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 2:30 p.m., at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA. All attendees shall meet at the cemetery, behind the main office building by 2:15 p.m. Military honors will conclude the services.
