Shirley A Young

Shirley A. (LaFaver) Young, 74, of Topton, died Friday, February 24, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township where she was a patient three days. She was the widow of Robert J. Young who died June 7, 1982. Her former companion, William M. "Billy" Wessner died October 2, 1996.

Born in Richmond Township, she was a daughter of the late Harold A. and Elsie M. (Reis) LaFaver. She first worked in the shipping department of the former Wenton Shoe Factory, Kutztown. Shirley then worked over 20 years as a labeler for East Penn Manufacturing Company, Lyon Station until her retirement in 2004. After her retirement, she worked part-time as a bartender at Ray A. Master, Post 217, American Legion, Topton, where she was also active with the Ladies Auxiliary group.

She is survived by Daughters, Dori A. (Young) wife of William H. Martin and Cindy M. (Young) wife of Brian S. Derr, both of Fleetwood; Sons, Robert D. husband of Cheryl R. (Smith) Young, Fleetwood, Harold A. husband of Starr L. (Landis) Young, Hamburg and Troy K. husband of Patricia A. (Adams) Young, Mertztown. Other survivors include Sisters, Sandra (LaFaver) widow of Kenneth Weitzel, Donna (LaFaver) wife of Randy Frey, both of Topton and Karen B. (LaFaver) Leiby companion of Daniel Hartzell, Mertztown; Brothers, Richard husband of Janice (Knoll) LaFaver, Fleetwood and Dennis husband of Wanda (Smith) LaFaver, Kutztown. There are 12 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. Shirley was predeceased by a Son, Lewis J. Young November 22, 2010 and a Sister, Patricia LaFaver who died in infancy.

Funeral Services are Tuesday, February 28, 2012, 11:00 AM from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, 19530. Interment in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township. Friends may call Tuesday, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home.
