Mrs. Sarah C. Hess

Sarah Catherine (Benjamin) Hess, 97, formerly a resident of Maidencreek Place and of Fredericksville, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 in HCR ManorCare, Laureldale. She was the widow of Woodrow R. Hess, Sr., who died unexpectedly on March 6, 1965.

Born in Blandon, Sarah was a daughter of the late George W. and Bertha Mae (Keim) Benjamin. She was a member of Blandon Mennonite Fellowship Church. After completing the 8th grade, Sarah began her career as a Sewing Machine Operator, working in several local factories. Most recently, she was a Homemaker.

Sarah enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. While a resident at Maidencreek Place, she enjoyed being active with their activities. Sarah was always there for those in need; taking care of her children and grandchildren, as well as the animals that lived around her home.

Sarah is survived by her children, W. Robert, widower of Jeanette M. (Bleiler) Hess, Alburits, Roger J., husband of Patricia (Dey) Hess, Patrick Springs, VA, and Mark D., husband of Pamela (Shirk) Hess, Millsboro, DE; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; sister, Freida M. Fox, Hamburg; and brother, George Benjamin, Bechtelsville.

In addition to her husband and parents, Sarah was predeceased by her three sons, David S. Hess in 1943, Paul A. Hess in 1967 and Timothy R. Hess in 1999; and 11 siblings, most recently her sister, Bertha M. Stewart, who died the day prior.

A graveside service to celebrate Sarah's life and burial will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in New Jerusalem Union Cemetery, 27 Lyons Road, Fleetwood (Rockland Township) with Pastor H. Larry Graber officiating. There are no calling hours.
