Sandra "Sandie" E. (Angstadt) Sonday, 84, formerly of Bowers, died peacefully, surrounded by her family Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in Willow Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Kutztown, where she was a patient since April 21, 2025. Sandra was the widow of John M. Sonday, Jr., who died January 22, 2009. Born in Bowers, Sandra was a daughter of the late William and Mary L. (Schwoyer) Angstadt.
Sandie was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Class of 1959. Following high school, Sandra went onto graduate from McCann Business School, Reading. From 1976 until her retirement in 2012, Sandie worked for the US Postal Service, first as a clerk in the Bowers, Topton, Mertztown, and Reading offices. She then became Postmaster in the Bowers Post Office in 1984. Sandie retired from the Lyon Station post office as Postmaster, having transferred there in 1993.
Sandie was treasurer and historian of the Berks County Postmaster Association. She was a member of NAPUS. She loved spending time with her girls, she loved cats and never turned away a stray. She enjoyed her yearly casino bus trip with her girls. She never missed any of her granddaughter, Leanda's sporting events.
Sandra is survived by two daughters, Lori J. (Sonday), widow of Stephen S. Helms, Topton; and Leslie J. Sonday, companion of Jeffrey M. Paterson, Lyon Station. There is one granddaughter, Leanda M. (Helms), wife of Molly (Wiley) Mills, South Easton, MA; and a great granddaughter, Lennon Grey Mills. In addition to her parents and husband, John, Sandie was predeceased by a sister, Sharon A. (Angstadt) Bogert, and a brother Frederick Angstadt.
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Sandra's life will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Rev. Martin Milne, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment in Union Cemetery of Bowers is private at the convenience of the family.
The family requests memorial contributions be considered in Sandra's name to Berks Cats in Crisis, PO Box 723, Reading, PA 19607.
