Mr. Rufus N. Zimmerman

November 6, 1936 — January 24, 2023

Rufus N. Zimmerman, 86, of Mertztown, died Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in Richland Christian Home, Richland, Lebanon County, where he was rehabilitating for the past two months.  Born in East Earl Township, Lancaster County, on November 6, 1936, he was a son of the late Elam E. and Katie N. (Nolt) Zimmerman.  He was the husband of Esther S. (Snyder) Zimmerman, whom he married December 31, 1959, having recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Mr. Zimmerman was a member of Walnuttown Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference, where he served as a Deacon.  He was a farmer.

Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his children: Bishop Leon S., husband of Alta N. (Nolt) Zimmerman, Mertztown; James S., husband of Karen W. (High) Zimmerman, Myerstown, Lebanon County; Arlene S. (Martin), wife of Kenneth B. Snyder, Bernville; and Miriam S. (Zimmerman), wife of John M. Hurst, Mertztown.  Other survivors include his siblings: Martha N. Zimmerman, Ephrata; Etta N. (Zimmerman), widow of Weaver Z. Zimmerman, Mifflinberg, Union County; Alta N. (Zimmerman), wife of Daniel Z. Zimmerman, Leola, Lancaster County; Ruth N. (Zimmerman), widow of Harvey Z. Horning, Mifflinberg; Ellen Z. (Zimmerman), wife of Amos Z. Horning, New Holland, Lancaster County; Wayne N., widower of Ella M. (Leinbach) Zimmerman, New Holland; Elvin N., husband of Mabel H. (Rissler) Zimmerman, New Enterprise, Bedford, County; Leon N., husband of Vera M. (Brubaker) Zimmerman, Stevens, Lancaster County; Sisters-in-Law: Laura M. (Zeiset) Zimmerman, Ephrata, widow of predeceased brother, Leroy N. Zimmerman; and Amanda M. (Leinbach) Zimmerman, East Earl, Lancaster County, widow of predeceased brother, Willis Zimmerman.  There are 23 grandchildren; 81 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Rufus was predeceased by a son-in-law, Leonard M. Martin; a grandson and a great grandson.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. from Walnuttown Mennonite Church, 1219 Pleasant Hill Road, Fleetwood, with Bishop Amos G. Martin, officiating.  Interment in Walnuttown Mennonite Church Cemetery.  There will a viewing from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2023, in Walnuttown Mennonite Church.
