Roy L. Schlegel, 76, of 720 Noble St., Kutztown, died Monday, January 12, 2004, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was married to Betty J. (Moyer) Schlegel for 52 years last April.
Born in Rockland Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Daniel and Kate (Miller) Schlegel. He was an assistant head of physical facilities for Kutztown University for more than 27 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where he was a past council member for 27 years and a former cemetery board member. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a life member and past senior vice commander of Veterans of Foreign War Post 560, Kutztown. He was a former secretary for Boy Scout Troop 204, Kutztown. He played the electric bass for several country bands, 1950-2000.
He is survived by Wife; Son, Randy L. of Lyon Station; Daughters, Connie J. Vanim of Zionsville, Cindy L. Munson of Kutztown; Sister, Fern McFadden of Millville, Del.; 11 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services are Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 10:30 AM from Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, 340 Moselem Church Road, Kutztown, 19530. Interment with Military Honors in Zion Moselem Church Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until time of services.
Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to the Zion Moselem Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
