Ronald E. Haas, 84, of Mertztown, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Faye D. (Stoudt) Haas, whom he married on November 8, 1958.
Born in Lititz, PA, Ronald was a son of the late Edwin R. and Anna (Seidel) Haas and attended Parkland High School. He honorably and faithfully served his country in The United States Air Force. Ronald was a skilled and accomplished Carpenter. For over 40 years, he was employed by Warren Ziegler General Contracting, Kutztown, until his retirement.
Ronald was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, and Longswamp Lions Club, Mertztown, where he was a member for over 42 years and served as a past President. Ronald was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He belonged to the Topton Fish and Game Assn., Alburtis and Kutztown Rod and Gun Clubs, Promised Land Sportsman's Association, and Pike Township Sportsman's Association, and was a former Leader for Boy Scout Troop #575 of Longswamp. He also enjoyed bowling, playing softball, playing cards, puzzles, and above all, going to the casinos.
Ronald looked forward to the trips to his cottage in the Poconos, his Sunday morning breakfasts with his wife, and supporting his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events.
Along with his wife of 64 years, Faye, Ronald is survived by his two children, Donna L. (Haas), wife of Bill Hordendorf, Topton, and Ronald B. Haas, fiancé of Lori Burgen, Macungie; five grandchildren, Amanda L. (Hordendorf), wife of Troy Butz, Blandon, Amy M. (Hordendorf), wife of Kelly Frantz, Blandon, Abbey C. (Hordendorf), wife of Carl Bechtel, Blandon, Jason T. Haas, fiancé of Abby Hess, Boyertown, and Andrew R., husband of Felicia (Shoup) Haas, Topton; and 10 great-grandchildren, Riley, Zoey, Harlee, Jase, Beau, Hunter, Hanna, Kendall, Cora and Gavin. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley A. (Haas), widow of Forrest L. "Foss" Rauenzahn, Mertztown.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was predeceased by a daughter, Darlene A. (Haas) LaFaver, who passed away unexpectedly on April 1, 2018; and by a brother, Larry Haas.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor Ronald's life will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Scott M. Sanders officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
