Rodney A Rhoads

Rodney A. Rhoads, 77, of Kutztown, died Monday, February 21, 2011 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, shortly after admission. He was the widower of Irene M. (Burghardt) Rhoads who died October 12, 2007.

Born in Lower Alsace Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Arthur L. and Charlotte N. (Bower) Rhoads. He was a member of Saint John’s United Church of Christ, Kutztown. He was a US Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. He was employed as an engineering associate and technician at the former AT&T, Allentown from 1965 until his retirement in 1991. He first worked at the former Western Electric, Allentown from 1957 to 1962, then Air Products & Chemicals, Trexlertown from 1962 to 1965. He was a member and past president of Kutztown Lions Club, Kutztown, he also was an Emergency Medical Technician and volunteer on the former Kutztown Lions Club Ambulance, Kutztown for many years. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kutztown Post 560; and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He is survived by Daughters, Karen A. (Rhoads) wife of Eric L. Pannebecker, Fleetwood and Tammy L. (Rhoads) Stoudt, Fleetwood. Other survivors include Sisters, Janice E. (Rhoads) wife of Stanley Koller, and Charlotte S. (Rhoads) Merkel, both of Kutztown. There are also Grandchildren, Cory S. husband of Jill (Torak) Pannebecker, Melissa A. (Pannebecker) wife of Rickie Fegely, Jr. and Christopher C. husband of Rachael (Singer) Stoudt and a Great Grandson, Cooper Fegely and a Step Great Granddaughter, Madeson Fegely. Mr. Rhoads was predeceased by a Brother, George E. Rhoads.

Funeral Services are Friday, February 25, 2011, 1:30 PM from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, 19530. Interment with Military Honors provided by Ray A. Master, Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood. Friends may call Friday, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM in the funeral home.

The family requests contributions be made to Saint John’s U.C.C. Church, 257 West Walnut St., Kutztown, PA 19530. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
