Robert M. “Bobby” Geist, 83, a resident of Keystone Villa, Blandon, and formerly of Kutztown, died Saturday, January 2, 2016 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where he was a resident for one month. He was the husband of Mary L. (Weidner) Geist, whom he married July 10, 1954.
Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Clarence D. Geist, Sr., and Meda M. (Kramer) Geist. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, where he served as an Elder and former Deacon of the Church Consistory. Bobby faithfully served our country, as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, during the Korean War. He was employed as a press operator by Kutztown Publishing Company, Kutztown for 40 years, retiring in 1995. Bobby was a member of the Kutztown and State Optimist Clubs, Hoch-Balthaser Post 480, American Legion, Kutztown, The Pennsylvania Jaycees and the former Kutztown Jaycees, and was a KU Foundation Board member. He was an active member of the Kutztown Fair Board for more than 30 years. Bobby was also a member of the Hope Cemetery Board, Kutztown for more than 20 years and was a former member of the Kutztown Borough Council.
She is survived by Wife of 61 years, Mary; Daughter, Manette L. (Geist), wife of D. Keith Boyer, Hamburg; Sons, David W., husband of Catherine (Callahan) Geist, Annville, Steven R. Geist, Fleetwood; Sister, Bonnie (Geist) Marker, Atlanta, GA; Brothers, Clarence D. Geist, Jr., Albany Twp, Larry L. Geist, Bowers, and Richard R. Geist, Topton. There are also 4 Granddaughters, Danette (Boyer), wife of Jason Seidel, Laura Boyer, Katelyn Boyer, and First Lt. Brett (Boyer), wife of First Lt. Michael Rocha; and 5 Great Grandchildren, Ava Boyer, twins, Cora and Lucy Seidel, Owen Seidel and Taynara Rocha. Bobby was predeceased by his Sister, Delores L. (Geist) Sterner in 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 10:30 AM in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 47 South Whiteoak Street, Kutztown, with Reverend John W. Davies officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton and the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard, will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and Thursday morning from 10:00 to 10:30 AM in the church.
The family requests contributions be made in Bobby's memory to Saint Paul's U.C.C. Memorial Fund, 47 S. Whiteoak St., Kutztown, PA 19530. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
