Robert D Hertzog

Robert D. Hertzog, 74, of Longswamp Township, died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 8:25 p.m. in his home. He was the husband of Grace A. (Kerschner) Hertzog. They were married August 27, 1955.

Born in Longswamp Township, he was a son of the late Robert M. and Edith J. K. (Werst) Hertzog. He was a Lutheran. He was a maintenance mechanic for over 30 years at Caloric Corporation at its former Topton facility. He was a Constable in Berks County. He also worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Berks County Sheriff’s Office, until his retirement in 1999. He was a past president of Longswamp Township Republican Club, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, Reading. He was a member of Pike Township Sportsmen’s Association, Mertztown, Kempton, and Kutztown Rod & Gun Clubs, serving on the fish committee at Mertztown. He also was a member of Austin - Costello Sportsmen’s Club, Austin, Potter County. Robert loved to play the harmonica. He played with the Blue Mountain Gang, along with his son Michael and grandson Lucas.

He is survived by Wife, Daughters, Lisa R. (Hertzog) wife of Thomas J. Solt, Alburtis and Gail L. (Hertzog) wife of Wayne L. Sell, Mertztown; Son, Michael D. Hertzog, at home. There are also 2 Sisters, Ruth Ann (Hertzog) wife of Warren Olinger, Oley and Mary Jane (Hertzog) wife of Thomas Emore, Sinking Spring. In addition, there are 7 Grandchildren, Matthew and Lucas Hertzog, Nathan and Benjamin Solt, Sean, Kevin and Jenna Sell and a Great Grandson, Ethan Hertzog.

Funeral Services are Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM from Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Interment in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Friends may call Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in the funeral home.

The family requests contributions be made to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2166 South 12th Street, Allentown, PA 19103. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
