Richard V. Umberger, age 76, of 125 Pricetown Road, Ruscombmanor Township, Fleetwood PA, died Thursday, May 11, 2000 in his home. He was the husband of Betty J. (Dorman) Umberger. The couple celebrated their 53rd Anniversary last June.

Born in Lancaster PA, he was the son of the late Roy M. and the late B. Miriam (Sprenger) Umberger. He worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Building Inspector from 1984 until his retirement in 1989. Prior to that he worked, in the same capacity, for Gilbert Associates, Inc., Reading for 20 years. he was a member of Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, Dryville, Rockland Township PA. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Berks County Genealogy Society, Reading PA.

He is survived by his Wife; A Daughter Carol L. (Umberger), wife of Thomas A. Schwendtner of Colorado Springs CO; 3 Sons, Richard M. Umberger of Topton PA, Kevin W. Umberger of Mertztown PA and Joel D. Umberger of Reading PA; 2 Sisters, Betty E. (Umberger), wife of Aubrey Patterson of Glen Burnie MD and Carolyn J. (Umberger), wife of Robert Pulda of Appleton WI; A Brother, Timothy A. Umberger of Lancaster PA and 7 Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 15, 2000 at 1:30 PM from Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, 16 Dryville Road, Fleetwood PA. Interment in Berks County Memorial Gardens (Maidencreek Township) Fleetwood PA. Friends may call Monday 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Church. The family requests contributions be made to the American Lung Association, of Lancaster and Berks County, 317 North Fifth Street, Reading PA 19601.
