Mr. Richard P. Warmkessel

Richard P. Warmkessel, 77, of Mertztown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in his residence. He was the husband of Jane A. (Kunkel) Warmkessel, whom he married on October 14, 1967.

Born in Maxatawny Township, Richard was a son of the late Warren H. and Miriam A. (Haas) Warmkessel and was a 1964 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Richard honorably and faithfully served his country in The United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Richard was employed by Agere Systems, Inc., working as a Technician for 32 years until his retirement in 2000. Following his retirement, Richard was employed by Gross Transportation as a Bus Driver, driving for The Brandywine Heights Area School District for 13 years.

Richard was a dedicated and faithful member of Zion's Union Church of Maxatawny. He served as the church Financial Secretary for 21 years, was instrumental in the formation of the audio/ visual committee, former member of the church council, where he served as council secretary during his term, and was active with the Sunday school. He enjoyed bowling, target shooting and was an all-around jokester who enjoyed life to the fullest.

Along with his wife of 56 years, Jane, Richard is survived by his two children, Korie J. (Warmkessel), wife of Stephen P. Talian, Harrisburg, and Jeffrey R., husband of Gillian V. (Deresch) Warmkessel, Savannah, GA; three grandchildren, Grace, Lily and Lucas; sister, Linda L. (Warmkessel), wife of Philip G. Menges, York Springs, Adams County; and brother, Randy L., husband of Karen M. (Krick) Warmkessel, Mertztown.

A memorial service to celebrate and honor Richard's life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion's Union Church, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, PA, with The Rev. Melissa A. Burkhart officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church.
