Richard served honorably in the United States Air Force in Alaska, where he started his career in Information Technology that lasted for 38 years. After leaving the service in 1960 he was employed by RCA in Camden N.J. as a programmer, mainly working on speech recognition. From there he ventured to Topton, Pa to be part of installing the first computer at Caloric Corp. His next stop for five years was MetEd where he helped install their first computer. After there, he was the first employee of Advanced Cybernetics, Inc (ACI), a Consulting and Service Bureau Firm, where he was employed for 10 years leaving as VP. He then joined GPU as a consultant from where he retired in 1996 after 17 years.
For the next 20 years, he enjoyed his walks in the morning thru the streets of Kutztown and Maxatawny Township, especially with the company of Clair Kramer. While in Daytona he walked the beach. He often said he was on his 3rd trip around the world in miles.
Richard was a member of the Kutztown Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 839, Fleetwood Sons of The American Legion, Post 625, and Kutztown and Lyons Fire Companies. He was a Charter Member of the Kutztown Hobos of which he once served as President.
He loved his work and also his social life. He hosted countless parties at his house which were attended by many of his friends. One of his dear friends, Carol, always wanted to write another chapter in "Dick's Diary", asking what chapter that should be when he told stories of his past. He enjoyed following the Philadelphia teams, especially the Phillies and Eagles. He also was a big fan of auto racing, especially NASCAR.
During his retirement he enjoyed traveling and working around his home in Kutztown. He loved the weather and "Happy Hours" in Daytona Beach in the Winter. Richard traveled to over 100 countries and saw most of the USA. He mostly liked Adventure Travel visiting places like Antarctica, Nepal, Cuba, and many Asian Countries.
Late in life, he enjoyed his "Friday Happy Hour" group at Harry's house where the famous saying was "ONE MORE"! He was also reunited with the "Love of His Life". He felt extremely fortunate that they were able to enjoy many special times together.
Richard left no family, but he leaves behind countless friends who will miss him dearly and never forget him!
