Richard F. Harter

Richard F. Harter, 76, of Kutztown, died Sunday, April 24, 2022, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.  He was the husband of Jean A. (Geiger) Harter.  Born in Reading, Richard was a son of the late Francis J. and Mildred L. (Mertz) Harter.  Richard honorably and faithfully served our country as a veteran of the United States Navy, with service during the Vietnam era.

Richard was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Class of 1963, where he participated in wrestling and was a trumpet player in the band.

Richard was employed as a supervisor at the former Red Cheek, then Beverage Works, now Sunsweet Growers, Fleetwood; Richard spent the remainder of his working years at the former Henninger's Nursery & Garden Center, Kempton, until his retirement.

Richard enjoyed practicing the art of bonsai; he enjoyed designing and creating outdoor water gardens and fishponds.  He was also known for his sense of humor.

Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean and his beloved dog, Chewie.  Other survivors include a sister, Mary L. (Harter), wife of Francis Hanyok, Tampa, FL; There are also several nieces and nephews that loved him very much.  There is also a sister-in-law, Janet E. Geiger, Topton.  In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by a brother David C. Harter.

A memorial service to celebrate and honor Richard's life will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., in Ludwick Funeral Home and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Jeffrey J. Butz, officiating.  Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.  Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.
