Raymond S. Adam, 87, of Kutztown, died suddenly Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Ephrata Community Hospital, Ephrata. He was the husband of Evelyn H. (Hixson) Adam, whom he married June 12, 1954.
Born in Richmond Township, he was a son of the late James A., and Maggie E. (Adam) Adam. He was a member of Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, Kutztown, since baptism. For many years, Raymond worked as a carpenter for several local contractors. He learned this skill from his father and uncle. He retired in 1987 from the Maintenance Department at Kutztown University after 17 years. He is best known for his love of motorcycle riding and his 1939 Harley Davidson that he rode back and forth to work and around the area. He also had many carpentry creations and was always willing to help fix someones broken spouting or sticking door. Raymond liked to attend the Reading Motorcycle Clubs Old Timers meet. He was a member of the Fleetwood Senior Citizens Group.
He is survived by his Wife of 59 years, Evelyn; his four Daughters and their families, Evelyn E. (Adam), wife of William J. Kelly, Hatfield, Montgomery County, Gladys A. (Adam), wife of Jeffrey A. Adam, Lenhartsville, Marian I. (Adam), wife of J. Timothy Gehman, Mohnton, and Suzanne M. (Adam), wife of John LaMastra, New Tripoli; Sister, Anna M. (Adam) Wolfe, Fleetwood; and Brother, Amandus I. Adam, Hamburg. There are also 10 Grandchildren, and 4 Great Grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by 5 Sisters and 4 Brothers.
Funeral Services are Monday, February 18, 2013 at 10:30 AM from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, 19530. Interment will follow in Zion Moselem Church Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Monday from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in the funeral home.
