Raymond A. Rauenzahn, 92, of The Lakes of Litchfield Retirement Community, Pawleys Island, SC, formally from Ft. Meyers, FL, Allentown, PA, and Willow Grove, PA died on October 8, 2017.  He was the husband of Doris (Scheirer) Rauenzahn, deceased. They were married for 64 years.

Raymond graduated from Kutztown Area High School and was inducted to the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame for earning four varsity letters in one year, team captain, and single season scoring record in basketball. He was also a three-year starter on the Kutztown State Teachers College basketball team. He graduated from Kutztown State Teachers College (now Kutztown University) in 1949 and earned a master's degree from Lehigh University. He was a former member of the Kutztown University Alumni Board. He was a math teacher, principal, and coach of baseball and basketball in the states of Washington and Pennsylvania. He retired from Abington Township School District, PA in 1985. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, boating, and traveling. He was born in Topton, PA, one of eight children of the late Edwin and Clara (Laird) Rauenzahn. His siblings are: Edwin (Mariam) (both deceased), Marjorie Geiger (Wayne, deceased), Wayne (Margaret, deceased), June Boyer (George) (both deceased), Robert (Joanne), Forrest (Shirley), and Patrick (Shirley). He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pawleys Island, SC. He was a lifetime member of the Masons, Malden Lodge #188, Malden, WA and a member of the Reading and Berks Basketball Old-Timers. He served as a staff sergeant with the Army in WWII as a member of the 1257 Engineers Combat Battalion in Europe. He was a life member of the American Legion, Post 217, in Topton, PA.

Raymond is survived by his four Children: David (Nancy) of Ocean City, NJ, Dale (Gail) of Baltimore, MD, Doray Mattocks (Charles) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Donna Whitney of Centennial, CO.  He has 8 Grandchildren, Lisa Betz (Jeremy), Brett Rauenzahn, Sherri Cervantes (Ismael), Dustin Rauenzahn (Elizabeth), Daniel Rauenzahn (Rosanne), Ashley Rauenzahn, Emma Whitney, and Charles Mattocks III. He has 2 Great Grandchildren, Finley Betz and Emerson Betz.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton, with inurnment at Bowers Union Cemetery, Bowers.   Friends may call from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
