Ralph H. “Bud” Oswald, 94, of Kutztown, died Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lagora F. (Benson) Oswald, whom he married October 15, 1955 .
Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Herman D. and Edna L. (Sensenderfer) Oswald. Mr. Oswald was a member of Saint John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, where he served as a past church consistory member. He was a 1938 graduate of Kutztown Area High School; and a United States Army Air Force veteran, where he served as a Sergeant in both the Pacific and European Theatres during World War II. Mr. Oswald was employed as a wood pattern maker by the former Dinkel Pattern Works, Hamburg for many years, retiring in 1983. Bud was a member of the Kutztown Rod and Gun Club; VFW Post #560, Kutztown; the former Kutztown Social Club; and Five Pine Lodge Hunting Camp, Sullivan County. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman .
He is survived by Wife; Children, Kurt D., husband of Mary E. (Breza) Oswald, Kutztown; Kermit D., husband of Lisa A. (Marino) Oswald, Kutztown, Martha J. (Oswald), wife of Thomas H. Roth, St. Augustine Beach, FL, Hallie S. (Oswald), wife of Larry J. Schumacher, Kutztown, and Kyle D., husband of Neda (Vaseghi) Oswald, Seattle, WA; Sister, Helen G. (Oswald), widow of Clarence "Fox" Cartwright, Topton; Brother, Ray, husband of Carol Oswald, Lancaster. Pop-pop is also survived by 10 Grandchildren, Emma E. (Oswald), wife of Andrew Haughton, Claire C. Oswald, Lily A. Oswald, Ivy L. Oswald, Collin M. Oswald, Avery L. Oswald, Carlye A. (Roth), wife of Brad Koehler, Bradley T., husband of Caitlin (Impink) Roth, Britta L. Schumacher, Hannah J. Schumacher, and one Grandchild on-the-way; and 2 Great Grandsons, Bennett J. and Holden T. Koehler. He was predeceased by Sisters, Leah (Oswald) Smith, Mary (Oswald) Kemp; and a Brother, Kermit Oswald .
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 12, 2015 at 2:30 PM in Saint John's United Church of Christ, 257 W. Walnut Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Michael W. Beynon and Reverend Dr. Harry L. Serio officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30 PM in the church. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family .
The family requests contributions be made to Saint John's United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 257 W. Walnut Street, Kutztown, PA 19530 . Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
