Mrs. Rachel E. Newswanger

Rachel E. (Kulp) Newswanger, 94 years, 10 months, 18 days, of Maxatawny Township, died peacefully Monday, December 18, 2023, in her home surrounded by family. She was the widow of Isaac Z. Newswanger, who died September 17, 2001. Born in Maple River Township, Emmet County, Michigan, Rachel was a daughter of the late Manasseh B. and Amanda B. (Eby) Kulp. She was a member of the Groffdale Conference of Mennonites and attended Center Mennonite Church, Kutztown.

She and her husband were farmers and operated Newswanger's Roadside Stand and Greenhouse, where they sold produce, annuals, perennials and vegetable plants.

Mrs. Newswanger is survived by three daughters: Mabel K. (Newswanger), wife of Norman W. Burkholder, Mertztown; Rachel K. (Newswanger), wife of Alvin K. Shirk, Flemington, MO; Edna K. (Newswanger), wife of Eugene R. Weaver, Fleetwood; sons: Isaac K., husband of Vera M. (Kurtz) Newswanger, Carson City, MI; Phares K., husband of Ellen W. (Burkholder) Newswanger, Kutztown; Lawrence K., husband of Lucy W. (Burkholder) Newswanger, Carson City, MI; Other survivors include, daughter-in-law, Vera R. (Weaver) Newswanger, widow of predeceased son Ernest K. Newswanger, Kutztown; and son-in-law, Elmer O., husband of Susanna B. (Martin) Ringler (widower of predeceased daughter, Rebecca K. (Newswanger) Ringler. There are also two sisters, MaryAnn E. (Kulp), widow of David Z. Newswanger, Fortuna, MO; and Lydia Ann (Kulp), widow of Christian G. Weaver, Goshen, IN; 71 grandchildren and 269 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Isaac, her parents, and the others mentioned, Rachel was predeceased by a daughter Lena K. Newswanger; a sister Lena Ann E. (Kulp) Kilmer; four brothers, Paul E. Kulp, Isaac E. Kulp, Cyrus E. Kulp, and Reuben E. Kulp. Mrs. Newswanger was also predeceased by six grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at Center Mennonite Church, 88 Deysher Road, Kutztown, with Bishop Eli W. Burkholder, officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at the residence of Grandson Luke W. and Elsie B. (Leid) Newswanger, 90 High Road, Kutztown.

The Pall Bearers serving will be Keith A. Ringler, Edwin P. Burkholder, Benjamin N. Shirk, Jesse W. Newswanger, Timothy B. Newswanger and Brandon E. Weaver
