R Russell Evans

R. Russell Evans, 81, of Emmaus, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 in the In-Patient Hospice Unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown where he was a patient since March 1, 2011. He was the husband of Dolores M. (Engelhardt) Evans. They were married 57 years this past January.

Born in Enola, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Isaac F. and Catherine (Byrd) Evans. Russell was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. He also served in the National Guard of New Jersey. Mr. Evans was employed as a service engineer for Mack Trucks at its international and world headquarters, Allentown for over 20 years. He then worked as director of service at the former IVECO Trucks of North America, now Volvo, Blue Bell, Montgomery County, until his health required a medical retirement in 1980. Evans was a life member of Ray A. Master, Post 217, American Legion, Topton and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Macungie Memorial Post 9264, Macungie. He also held memberships in the Catholic War Veterans and Macungie Fire Company.

He is survived by Wife, Daughters, Cynthia M. (Evans) Hager, Macungie and Carol (Evans) Trunzo, Bethlehem; Sons, David R. husband of Maria (Scarpino) Evans, Strongsville, OH and Douglas P. husband of Barbara (Jones) Evans, Castle Rock. CO. Other survivors include a Sister, Dorothy (Evans) wife of Gene Hammaker, Marysville, Perry County and Brother, Thomas and his wife Nancy Evans, Duncannon and Twin Brother, Ronald widower of Joan Evans, Marysville. There are also 7 Grandchildren, Adam, Krystal, Steven, Samuel, Robert, Cole and Carolynn. He is also survived by his best friend, Spook.

A public visitation will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton. A private memorial service and inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family requests contributions be made to Lehigh Valley Hopice, 2166 S. 12th St., Allentown, PA 18103. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
