R Paul Merkel

R. Paul Merkel, age 101 of Tower Court and Buehrle Center, both of the Lutheran Home, Topton, formerly of 3133 Octagon Ave., West Lawn, Berks County, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003, in Henry Health Care at the Lutheran Home. He was the husband of Sara A. (Wanner) Griesemer Merkel, who died in 1998, and the late Miriam E. (Schmeck) Merkel.

Born in Laureldale, Berks County, he was a son of the late Samuel N. and Annie (Raudenbush) Merkel. He was a salesman for General Foods, Philadelphia and Claymont, Del., for more than 38 years before retiring in 1963. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn. He was president of the West Lawn Lions Club in 1959 and a former West Lawn borough councilman.

He is survived by Son, Richard P. of Georgetown, Ind.; Daughter, Dorothy J. Devlin of West Reading; 11 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, a Great Great Grandson. He was predeceased by a daughter, Eleanor LoFrisco.

Memorial Services are 2:00 PM Saturday, August 23, 2003, in the multipurpose room of the Lutheran Home. No calling hours.
