Phyllis J. (Romig) Fenstermacher, 82, of Mertztown, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the widow of Karl K. Fenstermacher, who died on December 30, 2015, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
Born on the family farm in the village of Longsdale, Longswamp Township, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Allen B. and Mabel S. (Meck) Romig, and was a 1959 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School, Topton. Throughout her life, Phyllis was employed by the former Caloric Corporation, Topton, Thrivent Financial, and assisted at local daycare centers. Most of all, Phyllis was a wonderful homemaker who loved her husband, managed her household, and served the Lord. Her children and grandchildren were her top priority, and she was their number one supporter. She loved her many cousins and friends as well.
Phyllis was a dedicated and faithful member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Rockland Township, for many years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, confirmation class mentor, on the bell choir, as a pianist and wherever she could volunteer her time. She also volunteered reading to children at District Topton Elementary School. Phyllis enjoyed crocheting and was a member of two local crocheting groups that donated blankets and other crafted items to those in need around the world. She was a cherished member of the Longswamp community, attended various Bible study groups and enjoyed gardening and bird and deer watching at her home. Those who knew Phyllis will always remember her kind spirit and unwavering love for her family. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Patrick K., husband of Gail E. (Walters) Fenstermacher, Mertztown, Kay A. (Fenstermacher), wife of William I. Brady, New Oxford, PA, and Peter A., husband of Marie A. (Mattiuz) Fenstermacher, Blandon; brother, Timothy Romig, Wyomissing; 12 grandchildren, Meaghan, Colten, Paige, Ashley, Brandon, Megan, Philip, Isaac, Jennie, Olivia, Reece and Ayla; and 11 great-grandchildren, Azdyn, Nick, William, Mateo, Devanhi, Eliana, Atlas, Iris, Zinnia, Alister and Tatum (arriving in September).
