Pearl S Balthaser

Pearl S. (Shoemaker) Balthaser, age 86, of 9751 Longswamp Road, Mertztown PA, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 in The Lutheran Home at Topton where she resided since September 15, 1999. She was the wife of George Stewart Balthaser. The couple celebrated their 49th Anniversary this past November 23rd.

Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and the late Gertie E. (Reinert) Shoemaker. She was a 1934 graduate of the former Keystone Normal School, Kutztown PA, now Kutztown University. She was an elementary school teacher having taught from 1934 - 1941 at the former Farmington Rural School, Mertztown PA, 1941 - 1959 former Longswamp Rural School, Mertztown PA, and 1959 until her retirement in 1975 at the Longswamp Elementary School, part of the Brandywine Heights Area School District.

She was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mertztown PA where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, and Pianist for many years. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Teacher Retirees, East Penn Association of School Teacher Retirees, and Womans Club of Topton. She was also a volunteer at the Lutheran Home at Topton.

She is survived by her Husband and Sister, Grace B. (Shoemaker), wife of Carl Rohrbach of North Wales PA.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM from Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, 500 Luther Drive, Mertztown PA. Interment in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Friends may call Tuesday 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in the Church. Arrangements by Ludwick Funeral Homess Inc., Topton PA.
