Paul H. Wert, 87, of 8981 Breinig Run Circle, Breinigsville, formerly of Kutztown, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. He was married to Mary C. (Berg) Wert for 62 years last June.

Born in Bern Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Howard S. and Stella M. (Koch) Wert. He was an inspector for Carpenter Technology, Reading, for 27 years before retiring in 1978. Before that, he was a knitter for the former Rosedale Knitting Mill, Laureldale, Berks County, for more than 15 years. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Fleetwood. An Army veteran of World War II, he received a Purple Heart medal and the European-Middle Eastern-African Campaign Ribbon with four bronze stars. He was a past chaplain and life member of Horace M. Kieffer American Legion Post 625, Fleetwood. A life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Disabled American Veterans, he was a member of the 29th Infantry Division Association.

He is survived by Wife; Son, Gary L. Sr. of Fleetwood; Sister, Miriam E. Boyer of Muhlenberg Township, Berks County; Brothers, Warren R. of Sinking Spring, Berks County, Carl V. of West Lawn, Berks County; 3 Grandchildren, a Step Great Grandson, 2 Great Grandsons.

Funeral services are Monday, February 16, 2004 at 10:30 AM from the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Interment with Military Honors in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Fleetwood. Friends may call Monday from 9:30 AM until time of services.

The family requests contributions be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 27 West Washington Street, Fleetwood, 19522. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
