Pamela A Heid

Pamela A. “Pam” (Barrell) Heid, age 61, a lifetime resident of Kutztown, PA, passed away on March 23, 2016, in the Inpatient Hospice Unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, after a brief illness. Pam was the wife of Gregory W. Heid. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on August 7, 2015.

Pam was born on July 14, 1954 to the late Jean L. (Stopp) and Ray N. Barrell. A 1972 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Pam was also a cheerleader for the basketball team.  Her ongoing devotion to her hometown led her to achieve her B.S. in Elementary Education in 1976 and her M. S. in Reading from Kutztown State College. She also served as a cheerleader during her college years. Upon completing her teaching degree in 1976, Pam completed a year of substitute teaching in the Kutztown Area School District and in surrounding school districts. In 1977, Pam began her 20-year career as the First Grade teacher in the Greenwich Elementary School of the Kutztown School District, including teaching reading during summer school. She then became Instructional Support Teacher in the same school and was doing so until her illness on January 17, 2016.  In addition to teaching, she served as Cheerleading Advisor in the late 1970’s and part of the 1980’s. At the age of 3 years, Pam became an avid dancer taking tap, acrobats, ballet & jazz. At age 14, she became the acrobat teacher for Marilyn’s Dance Studio in Kutztown. Pam continued as acrobat teacher and general dance teacher until she became owner and operator of Marilyn’s Dance Studio in 1983. The June 2015 recital marked the dance school’s 50th anniversary recital. Pam’s legacy is also carried on through the many school and dance school students she taught through her forty years in education.

In addition to her husband Greg, Pam is survived by a Sister, Lori A. (Barrell) Baycar, wife of Raymond E. Baycar, Allentown, PA; and a Brother, Brian R. Barrell, husband of Keni M. (Coffin) Barrell, Mertztown, PA. Pam has one nephew, Adam B. Barrell and his wife, Jennifer of Hudson, MA as well as two nieces, Kara L. Barrell and Hallie A. Barrell of Mertztown, PA. She is also survived by several cousins.

A Celebration of Pam's Life will be held on Friday evening, April 15, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Kutztown Area High School Auditorium, 50 Trexler Avenue, Kutztown. There are no calling hours. Inurnment will be private in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown.
