Oscar W. Day, Sr., 88, of Rockland Township, died Friday, November 23, 2007 in his family residence surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Eva M. (Keller) Day. They were married March 21, 1949.
Born in Rockland Township, he was a son of the late Jonas and Ellen E. (Geist) Day. He was a furnace operator and enamel sprayer at Caloric Corporation at its former Topton location for 20 years. He then worked as a crane operator at Bally Case and Cooler, Bally for over 15 years until his retirement in 1984. He proudly and honorably served his Country during World War II serving in the US Army. He was Lutheran. Oscar was an avid bird watcher.
He is survived by Wife, Daughters, Ellen R. (Day) Ollar, Fleetwood, Dorothy H. (Day) wife of Richard Getz, Killeen, Tx, Shirley A. (Day) wife of Larry L. Erb, Alburtis, Betty M. (Day) wife of Kent M. Schnader, Temple, Doris D. (Day) wife of Robert F. Engelman, Kutztown, Dolly D. (Day) wife of Edward C. Faith, Port Clinton, Schuylkill County, Susan E. (Day) wife of Thomas Michak, Jr., Fogelsville, Joann L. (Day) Good, Reading, Eva J. (Day) Dey, Oley; Sons, Oscar W. Jr., husband of Cheryl L. (Christman) Day, Steven A. Day, both of Fleetwood. Oscar and Eva raised a Grandson, David E. Todt, Moselem Springs. In addition to David there are 19 other Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by Sisters, Mamie (Day) widow of William Zimmerman, Leesport, Margaret (Day) wife of Albert Dotterer, Boyertown. He was predeceased by Sisters, Florence (Day) Fritzinger and Esther Day and Brothers, Elwood and John Day.
Funeral Services are Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Interment in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton with Military Honors provided by Ray A. Master, Post #217, American Legion, Honor Guard, Topton. Friends may call Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The family requests contributions to Ray A. Master, Post #217, American Legion, Honor Guard, 115 East Centre Avenue, Topton, 19562. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
