Mr. Norwood P Lawfer

Dr. Norwood P. “Woody” Lawfer, 78, of Noble Street, Kutztown, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, shortly after admission. He was the husband of Nancy J. (Becker) Lawfer. They were married on August 5, 1950.

Born in Palmerton, PA he was the son of the late Norwood G. and Caroline H. (Pilz) Lawfer. He was a past president of the Faculty Association, a professor in the Science Department at Kutztown University, Kutztown, for 31 years retiring in 1989; prior to that he was a Math and Science teacher at Kutztown Junior High School, Kutztown, for 3 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Lehighton High School. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Kutztown University in 1955, his Master of Science Degree in Education from Columbia University in 1961, and his Doctorate of Education from Lehigh University in 1972. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Paul’s UCC Church where he had served as past elder, deacon and president of the consistory.

He is survived by Wife, Daughter, Elaine C. (Lawfer) wife of Anthony Iachini, Salisbury Township; Son, Norwood H. husband of Carol (Vinson) Lawfer, Stony Run; Grandchildren, Brian, husband of Susan (Ward) Lawfer, Nathan Lawfer, Laura Lawfer, Aidyn Iachini, Joshua Iachini; Great Granddaughter, Julia Lawfer. He was predeceased by Son Richard A. Lawfer on April 12, 1955 and Daughter Lorraine J. (Lawfer) Keller on September 14, 1988.

Funeral Services are private at the convenience of the family. Private Inurnment with Military Honors in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown.

The family requests memorial contributions to St. Paul’s UCC Church, 47 South Whiteoak Street, Kutztown, PA 19530. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
