Myrtle E. (Behm) Merkel, 94, formerly of Mertztown, died Saturday, June 13, 2015, in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she was a resident since February 2012. She was the widow of Forrest L. Merkel, Sr., who died January 4, 2005.

Born in Rockland Township, she was a daughter of the late Charles M. and Elsie H. (Rohrbach) Behm. Myrtle was a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Fleetwood, where she was a member of the sunshine society and a shoofly baker. Mrs. Merkel was employed from 1964 to 1971 as a custodian at The Lutheran Home at Topton.

She is survived by Daughter, Patricia A. (Merkel) widow of George N. Siegfried, Sr., Breinigsville; Sons, Forrest L. Merkel, Jr., fiancé of Marie S. (Adam) Leibensperger,  Linwood J. Merkel, both of Mertztown; and a Brother, Samuel P., widower of Arline (Carl) Behm, a resident at Kutztown Manor, Kutztown. There are also 5 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by a Sister, Mildred (Behm) Isamoyer and a Grandson, George N. Siegfried, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 10:30 AM from Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 E. Weis Street, Topton, with Pastor Ruth F. Doty, officiating. Interment in New Jerusalem Union Cemetery, Fleetwood. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the funeral home.

The family requests contributions be made to New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 27 Lyons Road, Fleetwood, PA 19522. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
