Miriam K. Reed

Miriam "Mim" K. (Hilbert) Reed, 95, of Topton, died Thursday, January 4. 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Miriam was the widow of Mark "Mook" K. Reed, who died January 6, 1999.  Born in Kutztown, Miriam was a daughter of the late Fremont P. and Carrie M. (Miller) Hilbert.  She was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bowers, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class, former Church Council member, Church Choir member, and Synod Convention Delegate.

Miriam was first employed at Lyons Hosiery Mill, as a seamer; then did domestic work for Dr. & Mrs. William O. Muehlhauser; then became a cook for Brandywine Heights School District; and retired from Tarsus, Inc., Fleetwood, as a packer.

Mim enjoyed sewing, chrocheting, quilting, gardening, bowling, cooking, baking, travelling but most of all she enjoyed her Philadelphia Phillies.  Mim and her good friend Beatrice attended Phillies Spring Training in Clearwater, Florida, for over 25 years; they were at every opening-day game from April 10, 1971, the day Veteran's Stadium opened until the early 2000's.  Miriam was also a member of Topton Women's Club; Brandywine Minstrels; and Lyons Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Miriam is survived by a daughter, Jane L., widow of Carlos L. Arcelay, Topton; son Jeffrey L., husband of Sharon M. (Montagner) Reed, Kutztown.  Other survivors include, six grandchildren: Alison F. (Reed), wife of Thomas E. Ruppe; Joshua M., husband of Noelle R. (Haring) Reed; Griffin D. Reed; Mark L., husband of M. Camille M. (Kaamino Llanos) Arcelay; Kelsey J. Arcelay; and Alexandra J. Arcelay.  There are also 14 great grandchildren:  Tommy, Benny, Alex and Jimmy Ruppe; Sully, Caden, and Owen Reed; Keon and Kamaya Todd; Israel Arcelay; Jeremiah and Josiah Bradley; Sharrah and Zachary Llanos.  There are in-laws that also survive Miriam:  Anna and Ruthann Reed; Deanna and Janet Hilbert.  In addition to her husband, Mark, and parents, Miriam was predeceased by siblings: John Hilbert, Jean (Hilbert) Becker, Roberta (Hilbert) Schukraft, Lee Hilbert, Karl Hilbert.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Miriam's life will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 550 Fleetwood Road, Bowers, with The Reverend Martin A. Milne and SALM Randy Schlegel, co-officiating.  Interment in Lyons Cemetery.  Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the church.
