Mildred M. Seidel

Mildred M. (Mertz) Seidel, 91, of Maxatawny Township, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township, PA, with her family by her side. She was the widow of Gerald S. Seidel, who died on August 3, 2013, whom she married April 20, 1963.

Born in Maxatawny Township, Mildred was a daughter of the late Victor J. and Helen M. (Schucker) Mertz. Mildred, along with her late husband Gerald, were self-employed farmers in Maxatawny Township for over 50 years. She took great pride in raising her family and working on the farm. In her younger years, Mildred was employed at the former Saucony Shoe Factory in Kutztown. Mildred was a Christian who loved the Lord and was a former member of Grace E.C. Church in Kutztown. She was a great cook, enjoyed sewing, and loved to be in her garden.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Donna G. Seidel, at home, Brenda F. (Seidel), wife of Daniel G. Rice, Firth, Nebraska; son, Troy S. Seidel, at home; four grandchildren, Megan (Rice), wife of Jacob Hickey, Emily (Rice), wife of Zane Huttes, Samantha (Rice), wife of Ashton Henderson and Benjamin, husband of Jessi (Nieto) Rice; 10 great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Clara, Beau, Hank, Rawley, Grayson, Jaxon, Myles, James and Magnolia; and two brothers, Larry L. Mertz and Harold C. Mertz.

Along with her husband and parents, Mildred was predeceased by her two sisters, Mae M. (Mertz) Adam and Helen R. (Mertz) Leiby.

A memorial service to celebrate and honor Mildred's life will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, PA with Pastor Dave Long officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.in the funeral home. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.
