Michael C. "Mike" Erdman, MSN, FNP-C, 48, of Kutztown, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, after a sudden and unexpected medical incident on June 19th. He was the loving husband of Julie (Herbener) Erdman, whom he married on May 6, 2007.
Born in Allentown, Mike was a son of Bruce F. and Jayne A. (McFarland) Erdman of Wescosville. He was a 1993 graduate of Emmaus High School. He continued his education at Lehigh County Community College graduating with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 2005. He received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Kutztown University in 2010 and his Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner in 2014 from DeSales University. Mike was employed by Lehigh Valley Health Network for 23 years. He began his career at LVHN working as a courier. He later worked as a Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, then as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit with many of the same colleagues who lovingly cared for him until the very end. Most recently, Mike worked as the TAVR program coordinator in the Invasive Cardiology/Cardiothoracic Surgery Departments.
Mike served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Scout Troop 101B of Kutztown and a former Assistant Cub Scout Den Leader for Pack 101. On any given morning, Mike could be found attempting to lift ALL the weights in the gym. He was in constant pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee which he enjoyed while catching up on his latest book of non-fiction or while watching or feeding the birds in the yard. Mike was the in-house expert on animals, with a special love of birds, insects, reptiles and dinosaurs. He loved to be outdoors and could sit in the woods for endless hours in his latest pair of boots or sporting a new backpack. He was an avid Marvel and Star Wars fan and would anxiously await the latest releases to enjoy with his family. Mike was an admitted news junkie who spent a bit too much time doom scrolling but was passionate about social and political issues in his community and the world. Mike's infectious laugh filled a room along with his larger-than-life personality and unmatched antics. Above all, Mike was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend and co-worker and will be sorely missed by all. In a final act of selflessness, Mike donated organs and tissue as a gift of life to others.
Along with his wife of 16 years, Julie, and parents Bruce and Jayne; Mike is survived by his three children, Sarah M. Erdman and her sons, Ryland and Roman, of Old Zionsville; and Mason C. Erdman and Finn M. Erdman, both at home; two brothers, Scott T. Erdman of Mertztown, and Kris A. Erdman of Macungie; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Setter Ridge Vineyard, 99 Dietrich Valley Road, Kutztown. A time of remembrance will begin at 7:00 p.m. In honor of Mike's love for pot-luck picnics, please come casual and bring your favorite covered dish for all to share.
