Maryellen Monaghan, 68, of Topton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 21, 2025 in her residence. Born in Shenandoah, PA, Maryellen was a daughter of the late Francis James and Jean Ann (Donovan) Monaghan and was a member of Divine Mercy Roman Catholic Parish, Shenandoah.

Maryellen was a graduate of Cardinal Brennan High School, Ashland, PA, and Kutztown University, where she received her bachelor's degree in special education. For 36 years, Maryellen was employed by The Brandywine Heights Area School District, working as a Special Education Teacher in their high school until her retirement. During her time at Brandywine Heights, Maryellen served as a class advisor, softball and volleyball coach, and was an advocate for all of her students. Maryellen touched the lives of many through her unwavering commitment to education and her passion for nurturing young minds.

Maryellen loved her Topton Community and its history. She was very community oriented and was involved in several committees and organizations including serving on Topton Borough Council, Planning Commission, was the Vacancy Board Chair and Quality of Life Appeals Officer, and was a collector of Topton memorabilia. She was a member of the Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and Lyons Fire Company. Maryellen had a love for dogs, especially golden retrievers and most recently, goldendoodles.

Maryellen is survived by her three nieces, Kelly A. Monaghan and wife, Natalie S. Rebman, Elizabethtown, PA, Lynette (Monaghan) Moyer, York, PA, and Larissa Monaghan, York, PA; six great nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces and nephews; and one brother.. She is also survived by her close friend and "sister" Kathy Hassler of Topton, PA and her family. Along with her parents, Maryellen was predeceased by a brother, Frank J. Monaghan in 2007.

A Celebration of Life event for Maryellen will be held at alter date.
